The Different Styles of Indian Wedding Sherwanis Worn by Men
Sherwanis are a staple of men’s weddings in India, but they can be challenging to choose from. There are many different styles to choose from, and each one looks fantastic. There’s also the fact that you’ll probably have various body types and skin tones at your wedding—which means finding an outfit that works for everyone is essential! The good news is that there are lots of options out there for sherwani for men wedding
Semi-Formal Sherwanis
- Semi-formal sherwanis: These are the most common sherwani styles worn by men and are also the most popular. They have a medium fit and usually feature a straight cut or single button closure.
- Collarless necklines: This sherwani style features no collar at all—you’ll see it on some of our models’ necks!
Traditional Sherwanis
Traditional sherwanis are usually silk, with a buttoned front and a plain back. The opening for the head is also quite large so that it can be worn with a turban or without one. In some cases, traditional sherwani dresses may have sleeves that come down to the elbow or just below it depending on how much skin you want to show off!
Designer Sherwanis
Designer sherwanis are the most popular of all types of sherwani. They’re made from silk, cotton or wool and can be monochromatic or have a print.
These designer sherwanis are typically more expensive than other types, but they’re also more likely to be versatile in colour choices and patterns.
Indo-Western Styles
Indo-Western style sherwanis are a fusion of Western and Indian styles. They typically consist of a long tunic that is worn over the usual sherwani, but instead of having just one layer, it has two or three layers and can have an embroidered waist
and or an appliquéd border around it. The top part is usually sleeveless with no buttons or zippers; instead, there may be large buttons on either side. In addition, there may be decorative stitching around the neckline along with several rows of tassels at each end (these are sometimes called “jari”). The bottom part often has a large hemline and/or pleats; this makes them suitable for use during other occasions as well as weddings!
The Indo-Western style would also work well if you wanted something more formal than what we usually recommend here at our store:
Monochromatic Sherwanis
Monochromatic sherwanis are a good choice for men who want to look stylish without going over the top. These are usually worn with a formal shirt, tie and shoes in white or black. White is one of the best colours for monochromatic sherwanis as it makes you look clean and professional at the same time.
Cotton Sherwanis
Cotton sherwanis are a good option for those looking for something that’s lightweight and easy to wear. Different styles tend to have a more relaxed fit than silk ones—they aren’t super tight or constricting around your waistline like most other types of Indian clothing would be on you. They can be worn in hot weather but are not as formal as silk sherwani varieties.
They also make an excellent choice if you want something that can be worn casually at weddings (or other events). You could pair them with an Indian kurta and dhoti, so they look very traditional, or try pairing them with jeans instead!
Sherwanis with Embroidery
Sherwani with embroidery is widespread and can be done in many different styles.
This style uses many different types of stitches to create patterns on the sherwani, including:
- back stitch
- cross-stitch (cross-stitching)
- chain stitch (chain stitching) * eyelet stitch or eyelet crochet(eyelets) or other decorative stitches

There are many styles of sherwanis for Indian men to wear for weddings.
- The most straightforward but popular style is the Nehru jacket or tunic. This comes in two forms: with a long neck and without, worn open or closed at the front and back. The Nehru jacket usually has four buttons down each side of its body, but some versions have three buttons, referred to as “the four-button” variant. It can be made from cotton or polyester fabric, depending on what you’re looking for in terms of comfort and durability during your big day!
- If you prefer something more formal than plain old jeans, consider wearing this stunning outfit! The Nehru shirt has been around since the early 1900s when it was first introduced by British Army officers who wanted something comfortable enough to work all day long without feeling uncomfortable about their appearance (or lack thereof). Today it’s still trendy amongst both men & women alike because it looks excellent and provides great flexibility – meaning there will always be someone willing/able to offer advice/tips.

If your budget allows, it’s best to have a tailor make your sherwanis, as they are more durable and will last longer than ones purchased from a store. However, if you don’t want to spend that much money on something that might only be worn once or twice, then choosing indigo or cotton fabric is also an option.
