How to draw a lily of the valley. Lily of the valley is a fragrant flower related to asparagus. It is sometimes called Lily of the Valley, May Bells, Lady’s Tears, or Mary’s Tears. Most plants have only two leaves and a bell-shaped flower stem.
The lily of the valley is poisonous to humans and pets, but several butterflies use it as a food source. It is a favorite shade garden flower, and perfumes mimic its sweet scent. The royal family of Great Britain prefers it as a wedding flower. Images of the lily of the valley appear on Moldovan postage stamps and Norwegian coats of arms, and it is recognized as a national symbol in Yugoslavia and Finland.
In fluorography, the “language of flowers” is once used to send secret messages. The lily of the valley represents the return of happiness once lost. It may be based on a legend where a lily-of-the-valley plant loved a nightingale bird. The bird returned home only when the flowers bloomed in spring.

Step-by-step instructions for drawing a lily of the valley.
Step 1
Draw a couple of long, wavy, parallel lines. At the top, curve the lines to form a hook shape. It will form the stem of the flower.
Step 2
Draw two sets of closely spaced, curved, parallel lines from one side of the stem. Connect them at the ends. Then extend two curved lines towards each other, forming an inverted “U.” Draw a shorter curved line at each end of the “U,” sloping inward. Finally, connect them using a curved “V” line. It encloses the flower, sporting three visible petals.
Step 3
Draw another set of closely spaced parallel lines extending from the opposite side of the stem. Draw a flower at its tip, starting with an inverted “U” shape. Next, make the three petals using short, curved lines. Repeat this process to enclose another flower at the tip of the original stem.
Step 4
Extend two more sets of parallel lines together from the stem. Draw a flower at the tip of each one.
Step 5
Extend two more sets of parallel lines from the stem, allowing them to overlap. Then draw a flower with three petals at the end of each.
Step 6
Fill in the empty spaces with a different flower.
Step 7
Next, draw the large leaf of the lily of the valley. Extend three curved lines up from the bottom and side of the stem. Let all three lines converge on the flowers. The centre line forms the leaf vein.
Step 8
Draw another portable leaf on the yield side of the stem. Again, use three converging curved lines. At the tip of the blade, it encloses an irregular curved shape. Indicates a curve in the sheet and gives depth to the image.
Step 9
Use curved lines to draw veins on each leaf.
Step 10
Colour your lily of the valley. Lily of the valley flowers are usually white but can also be light pink. The leaves are typically dark green.
