Ziro
Ziro is a small town in the northeast state of India, Arunachal Pradesh, surrounded by lush green paddy fields. Mostly, the Apa Tani tribes inhabit this place.
October is the perfect time to visit Ziro, for this is the time when the monsoon ends and winter begins. And when it snows, it covers the entire valleys of Ziro, giving it a very charming look. It’s a very peaceful hill station to visit in October in India.
Hampi
Hampi, one of the oldest cities in India, is in fact a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is located in Karnataka, a state in southern India, and was once an important center. If you or any of your family members is a history buff, this is one of the best places to visit in October.
In the 13th-14th centuries, Hampi was the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. Hence, it was fortified. A lot of temples still exist here, though most of them are in ruins; still, there is more than enough to learn about the history of India. Historians and archaeologists today have found accounts of foreign travelers visiting India who had described Hampi elaborately. It was literally a city everybody fought for, until colonial rule was completely set in India, in the 19th century.
You can visit Hampi with your family and see all the old monuments; they’re a sight to behold, architectural marvels, considering the age they were built was not even close to what we know about science today.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands
In the month of October, there will not be a lot of crowds in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. They’re essentially a group of islands in the Indian Ocean – very exotic and mysterious. The many palm trees and the peaceful sands of the beach are what attract tourists to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
It might come as a surprise to you, but the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have some historical significance. There has been evidence of life existing here as early as 2,200 years ago. Then, in the 11th century CE, they served as a strategic port for the Chola Empire to colonize the Srivijaya Empire in present-day Indonesia. In the 17th century CE, the islands become a temporary shipping base for the Maratha Empire and its navy. It is said that a Maratha admiral played an important role in annexing the islands to the Indian subcontinent. During the colonial era, they passed hands between the Danish, the Austrians, and the British. During the Second World War, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands were controlled by the Indian National Army and Subhash Chandra Bose, on a mission to free India from colonial clutches. Three years after independence, in the year 1950, the islands became a part of the Indian subcontinent; in 1956, they were made a union territory of India.
There are several attractions here including water sports and the Cellular Jail where colonial prisoners were placed. The beautiful beaches here are a natural paradise, with rich coral reefs and lush green forests.

Kodaikanal
Kodaikanal is a hill station situated in the state of Tamil Nadu, with a beautiful climate and mist-covered cliffs, nestled on the slopes of Palani Hills. It is sometimes referred to as “The Princess of Hill Stations”.
It did not have much historical significance, until the colonial period. Archaeological evidence suggests that there has been a population existing here from the Megalithic time period, those of a tribal population. Much later, it was the British who discovered Kodaikanal as a place to stay away from the scorching summers of India. More than historical, the place has scientific significance, with the discovery of some new species of birds as well as animals.
Popular tourist attractions here are Kodaikanal Lake, Coaker’s Walk, Berijam Lake, Green Valley, Pillar Rocks, and Dolphin’s Nose.
Alleppey
Now known as Allepuzha, Alleppey is a delightful destination along Kerala backwaters.
There is evidence that suggests that Alleppey had connections with Greece and Rome in the Middle Ages of Europe. Then, the land came twice under the Chera Empire of India. In the final months of the 15th century, the Portuguese began influencing Alleppey heavily, specially by Catholic Christian missionaries. In the 18th century, the Prime Minister of Travancore played an important role in developing Alleppey into a town and soon, a port city.
Here in Alleppey, you can take houseboat rides, and museum tours, and participate in some of the beach activities.
